Yellow Topaz: A Jupiter Gemstone for Vedic Astrology

By Tiffany April Raines, Certified Gemstone Advisor of Astrological Gem International

I am, personally, a very big fan of yellow topaz.  My mother wears it.  My father wears it.  Two of my closest friends wear it.  Not only do I recommend it to our clients regularly, I also give it as a gift when it’s a beneficial gem for my loved ones.  It’s one of the most powerful uparatnas, or secondary Jyotish gemstones, in terms of its ability to transmit planetary energy effectively.

Yellow sapphire is the primary Jyotish gemstone for Jupiter, but yellow topaz is an excellent alternative when one is on a budget and can’t afford a top-quality sapphire.  It possesses a warm, expansive, open energy.  We’ve heard great success stories from our clients who wear it.  Financial, emotional, and physical improvements have been reported on multiple occasions.

Fine yellow topaz is normally sourced from Brazil.  The ideal topaz for Vedic astrology ranges from a light golden color to deep golden yellow with very faint orange undertones.  It should not be heat-treated or irradiated.  We recommend a minimum of 3-4 carats in order to receive tangible results for Vedic Astrology, but 5+ carats is considered ideal.

I recently went on a trip overseas and didn’t want to risk bringing my high-value yellow sapphire pendant with me, so I bought a yellow topaz and had it set into a ring to travel with.  I was extremely impressed by its energy and power.  I was able to feel it offering me health, abundance, happiness, and protection – all qualities my yellow sapphire normally provides, but in a slightly gentler dose.  Upon returning from my trip, I continued to wear it in addition to my yellow sapphire, and have been enjoying the combined energy of these two gems ever since.  My home life, emotional well-being, and relationships have improved.  My spirituality has been reinforced.  (I’ve also put on about 10 pounds and acquired too much of an affinity for rich food, a potential side effect of a very heavy dose of Jupiter, but a little extra discipline and regimen will take care of that in no time.)

Yellow topaz can produce great astrological results for $1,000 or less, if one cannot invest in a yellow sapphire, which costs upwards of $1,200 per carat for a Jyotish quality gem.  As always, it is better to get a secondary gemstone that is top-quality than a primary gemstone that is poor quality.  A yellow sapphire that is heated, cracked, cloudy, or included will not produce results for Jyotish.  Quality yellow topaz, on the other hand, will produce good results, perhaps 70% of the power of a small premium yellow sapphire.
