Vedic Muhurtas: When To Begin Wearing Your Astrological Gemstone

A muhurta is a specific date and time selected by a Vedic Astrologer to maximize the auspiciousness of an event. Muhurtas can be used for buying homes and vehicles, for signing business contracts, and even for when you first begin wearing your astrological gemstone.

Some people like to get a muhurta for when their gem should first be purchased, but we find it’s most impactful to get one for when you actually begin wearing it.

While it’s not a hard requirement to use a muhurta for an astrological gemstone, as it will essentially start working as soon as put it on no matter what, auspicious timing is worth utilizing as it can optimize the results that your gemstone produces.

Not everyone has a Vedic Astrologer to get a muhurta from, so below are the proper days of the week to use for every gemstone. I’ve also included some suggested intentions to focus on and mantras you can recite for further activation. (Learn more about how we bless and activate our gemstones, and how you can do it at home, here.)

For All Gemstones:

Begin wearing the gem on a waxing moon. An ideal time of day is sunrise. (Cycles of increasing light are more auspicious than cycles of diminishing light.)

If doing a Vedic mantra, recite it 108 times. (Please note that there are more sophisticated mantras than the ones listed below, but if you’re new to Vedic practices, it’s fine to use a simple mantra that can easily be memorized. These can also be found on YouTube if you need any help with pronunciation.)

  2. Great article thanks Tiffany
For a long time I wore a golden beryl, secondary stone for jupiter, but the claws of the ring setting loosened and the stone fell out about 6 months ago. Fortunately I did not lose the stone or the ring but I am a little apprehensive about getting it repaired and wearing it again as I am wondering if there was a reason for all this…!

    1. Hello! Good question. When people wonder if an occurrence is a cosmic “sign,” I run it through what I call the “anomaly test.” This means that I ask myself what the likelihood is of something like this happening in ordinary life. If it is indeed an anomaly – something that very rarely happens statistically – then I’d say it’s likely to be a cosmic “sign.” If it’s not an anomaly, more of a normal occurrence, I find that it’s OK to consider it but it probably holds less weight.

So if the prongs of your ring were very small, the prongs loosened over years, and the gem eventually fell out, this is a normal occurrence. If you just began wearing the ring, the prongs were secure, and then one day the gem was magically falling out of the setting, that is an anomaly.

That said, it might also be worth looking into gems like yellow topaz, which we find are a lot more powerful than beryl when it comes to Jyotish benefit.

      Thanks!
